![]() ![]() There has been a paradigm shift in leveraging data for supply chain, particularly external data, which has been experiencing tremendous growth in the past few years. Packaged gases are a very transaction-intensive business with many distinct products, which leads to many opportunities to use analytics to manage the supply chain, understand margins and better target the sales force. As with large process plants, the vendor managed inventory model for bulk customers requires a variety of analytics, from optimizing assets to scheduling daily deliveries. Examples include condition and predictive monitoring of equipment such as motors and compressors to reduce unplanned downtime. Industrial gas plants require a high degree of automation and data analytics to ensure that they continuously operate safely, reliably and efficiently ( Megan and Bruton, 2017 ). As a precaution, you should physically disconnect the node from the cluster’s shared storage devices first. If repairing the node involves the replacement of the boot and/or system drives, you may need to do an ASR restore. You should then repair the failed components in the node in the same way as you would repair any computer system. If a node experiences a failure, any groups that were on the failed node should be moved to another node (unless you are using the single-node model). This will help you determine if your server cluster is not performing properly or is being outgrown. ▪ĭevelop performance baselines A performance baseline should be developed for each node and the server cluster as a whole. If you need an ASR restore, this will be a critical component. Perform Automated System Recovery (ASR) backups When performing an ASR backup on your server cluster, make sure that one node owns the quorum resource during the ASR backup. Periodically testing a restore will help keep the process fresh and help protect against hardware, media, and some software failures. Perform regular backups and periodically test restores Clusters need to be backed up just like any other computer system. Configuration and contact information should also be included in your documentation. Have good documentation Proper and complete documentation is the greatest asset you can have when trying to restore service. Following the same practices will help prevent unplanned downtime and assist in restoring service when service is lost: ▪ Many of the same basic administrative tasks performed on nonclustered servers apply to clustered ones. With the second cause, physical security and well-implemented security policies can reduce the possibility of any security incidents. With the first root cause, staff training and well-documented operating procedures will help decrease the possibility of outages. The outages are triggered by the mistakes or accidents of inexperienced staff or by intentional and malicious activities of certain employees. However, eventually, the changes have to be implemented for business reasons to improve the system.Ĭhange on its own will not cause outages. Of course, it is possible to have a system embargo during special periods, such as before a new product launch, during special events, and at Christmas. Change is inevitable, especially for the IT industry. Is it possible to ban all changes? The answer is definitely “No” because the world is always evolving. Now, the question is, why do human errors occur in a data center? The main reason is because of changes, such as software upgrades, patches, system reconfigurations, scheduled maintenance activities, etc. ![]() ![]() If we can reduce human errors in data center operations, we can decrease a significant amount of data center downtime and system outages.
